Question:
How common is it for women to experience shock loss after hair transplantation?

Answer:
Shock loss is seen on occasion in both men and women. It tends to be a little more common in females than males.

The reason the shock loss is more common in women is that in most cases females have more hair present when having the procedure than males do. The more hair that is present in an area where the hair transplantation procedure is being performed, the greater likelihood of their being post-operative shock loss.

All patients, male and female, should be notified of the possibility of post-operative thinning and/or shock hair loss following a hair transplantation procedure.
