Question:
How does hair color affect hair transplant results?

Answer:
Hair color is one of the key characteristics of an individual patient that can have a significant bearing on the results of a hair restoration procedure.

In cases where a patient has darker hair and lighter skin and there is greater contrast between the two, it often takes more grafting in a particular area to adequately block the light from penetrating the hair and hitting the scalp.

Patients who have darker hair tend to need more grafting and also usually notice their hair loss at an earlier point than those who have the same type of hair loss but have lighter hair color.

The results can be similar with different hair colors; however, sometimes it takes a different amount of grafts depending upon the actual hair color and the color of the patient’s skin.
