Question:
I am 33 years old and balding. I have been keeping my head shaved because I find the process so upsetting. Now I am scheduled for a hair transplant. Do I need to grow my hair out before the transplant or will you just shave the donor site anyway?

Answer:
You do not need to let the hair grow prior to the hair transplantation procedure. If a patient has any desire to have the donor area camouflaged in the immediate post-operative period, it is recommended that the patient have at least a small amount of hair surrounding the donor area so that this is possible.

If a patient plans on avoiding from his normal social environment and/or wearing a hat following the procedure, the donor area can be shaved completely prior to the procedure.
